A downloadable game

Download NowName your own price

An all-new port of the famous arcade game for the Amstrad CPC range of 8 bit computers. Works on any CPC with a disk drive or mass storage device and at least 128k of memory, or with the emulator of your choice, such as ACE-DLRetro Virtual Machine or WinApe.

Featuring:

  • Faithful recreation of the arcade game (more or less)
  • 50hz gameplay (mostly)
  • Much abuse of the CPC's 4 colour screen mode
  • 4 difficulty settings
  • High score saving
  • New game modes
  • New backgrounds
  • New level layouts
  • Level randomiser
  • Achievements (trophies)
  • Built-in cheats

In short, it's everything you could want from a remake of Bomb Jack for an old British microcomputer from the 1980s, and possibly more!

Included in download:

  • Disk image in .dsk format for use with emulators, USB floppy emulator such as Gotek, or to transfer to a real 3" disk if you are hardcore.
  • Direct file version for use with mass storage devices such as the M4.
  • PDF manual.
  • Hours of fun, hopefully.

Check out my other work at Claymatic Games.

Update #1 - I made a small change that should hopefully fix compatibility with the original CPC464
Update #2 - fixed a typo in the credits - apologies Tsuruta-san

Hello Anthony, what an awesome conversion of this arcade classic. It is by far the best conversion and IMO 1:1 to the original arcade game. I would be very glad, if you could update 'Bomb Jack Extra Sugar' and add AUTOSTART to the file 'BJES.BAS'. In CaPriCe Forever emulator, you need to select the file from the catalogue. Otherwise you did an excellent job and beat the developers of 'Bomb Jack DX C64'.

I haven't ever used CaPriCe... sorry, what do I have to do to make it autostart?

Very good question. I tried to find out how to make specific files to autostart when inserted. It looks like a special CaPriCe Forever feature. As soon as I have found out how to do it, I will let you know, unless someone else finds out. Thanks

La conversión perfecta. Enorme.

One question. Why is the screen cut off where it says HISCORE at the bottom?

(-1)

Looks like it just needs a small adjustment to the frame. If using the RVM emulator you might also need to adjust the overscan settings too, I noticed. It's because the game goes all the way to the bottom of the screen, and some emulators may clip this off, depending on how the screen settings are. You should be able to adjust this. Also it should look fine on a real monitor.

Playing this  via the Amstrad core on  MisterFPGA - excellent game but there are several uncomfortably long blackscreens between screens?

That's when it's loading and/or saving to disk. I don't know if the Mister core provides direct file access as well as disk drive emulation, but if you can run it directly from a directory rather than as a disk image you might be able to get it to load a lot faster. I don't know anything about the Mister, but running from an M4 card into a real CPC, the loading times are almost zero, so maybe you can set up the Mister to behave similarly.

Super Excellent JOB !

I have convert DSK to CPR format for 6128+ (i don't know if work on Gx4000, but it's work on 6128+)

https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/82f6791e-f69f-46d6-8fec-cd71bc62b581

I checked in emulator, it can work on GX4000 with memory upgrade but the issue is control configuration

After start you should press Space to enter main menu and after Esc to configure control. But in the end it is enough to have only direction keys and 2 buttons. But it requires update in the code, unfortunately.

speechless. wonderful game!

This is the best conversion I've ever seen on these machines. Congrats!

Very nice and clean Arcade conversion with many great extras and playability. Our German-language review can be found in our recorded livestream starting at 03:02:26 and there is also a longplay of the "Remix Mode" at 06:12:35. English subtitles are also available. Subscription to our YouTube and Twitch channel is welcome. 🙂

I could not believe it was mode1. My best CPC game so far! Thank you for this incredible piece of dev.  It would have been such a blast back then...

Great game, thanks.

Brilliant game, such a great version.  This is my tribute...

Good job.

Amazing. The visual style you chose is a masterpiece in its own. Thank you for such a feat!
Just two minor things about the credits:
- it's MICHITAKA, not MICHIKATA - typo!
- The 2D artist was Rie YATOMI at the time. Later on she married Michishito Ishizuka, but at the time she was nubile.
Source: I interviewed Tsuruta 20 years ago and the MAME history dat info comes from there.
